Our digital identity, or tattoo, is the permanent collection of data about us that is available online. Each time we post a picture, click a link, or watch a video, we are adding to that digital identity.
From a personal perspective, we need to reclaim ownership of that data. As more online applications become part of our daily lives, our digital identities become increasingly more detailed. There are over a billion pieces of content added to Facebook every day!
From a corporate perspective, we need be more responsible on how we collect, process, store, and transfer data. Global privacy regulations (such as GDPR, PIPEDA, LGPD and CCPA) are helping to guide us on how best to do this.
With an increased awareness in data privacy and digital safety, we can continue to innovate and participate in online activities while mitigating the risks.
